GreenSym is a program oriented towards the study of photonic systems. It allows to get results equivalent to laboratory experiments, but in a much faster and cheaper way. It is also very suitable for teaching photonic concepts to students.

GreenSym has been designed in such a way that it is very easy to use, so that anybody, even without any prior photonics knowledge, can benefit from it.

GreenSym has the following characteristics

 

  • Graphical design of particle systems:

The construction of the system is made in a way akin to 3D CAD programs.
Complex systems can be created from simple geometries and boolean operations.
  • Calculations for multiple wavelengths.
  • Based on the Green's tensor method, which performs exact calculations and thus yields very precise simulations.
  • Scattering light data can be obtained, just like in a real experiment, and even depict how light spreads in a region of space or inside the particles, something which is not possible with current experimental techniques:

Im(Ez) component of the electric field above a nanohole, 80 nm in diameter, in a 20 nm thick gold layer. The oscillations are due to the interference between the incident light and the plasmon originated in the hole.
  • Material Editor, to be able to include any kind of material, either created by the user or downloaded from the internet.
  • GreenSym can perform simulations of nanoparticle systems in both homogeneous media, such as in vacuum, and in backgrounds made up of layers of different materials. This enables the user to simulate experiments in laboratory conditions: particles on a cover glass, holes in metallic layers, etc..
